Get Healthy

Sunrider products are based on time-tested traditional Chinese medicine. Dr Chen calls this the Philosophy of Regeneration:

Given the proper nutrition, the body has the ability to heal itself.

Relying on 5000 years of proven medical wisdom about how to fuel the body for optimal health, Dr. Chen - traditional Chinese physician, biochemist, and founder of Sunrider - has arrived at the following requirements:

Regeneration vs. Substitution - The body has the power to heal and regenerate itself if given the fuel to do so. Regenerative foods heal the body. Substituting drugs for body functions weakens the body and leads to dependence.

Whole vs. Isolated - We were designed to eat whole foods. Whole foods are more readily absorbed by the body and have complex higher properties than isolated chemicals.

Food vs. Medicinal – “Food herbs” nourish and strengthen; “medicinal herbs” substitute for healthy body functions.

Concentrated – Highly concentrating, enhancing, and combining herbs into formulas provides maximum desired effect.

Natural – Pure food is organically grown, with no preservatives, chemical additives or sweeteners, unhealthy fat or fillers.

Balanced – Feed all the body's systems, and cleanse and detoxify to maintain balance. One weak body system tends to weaken the others.

   REGENERATION vs. SUBSTITUTION

Regeneration is an innate power of the body that strives toward order, balance and health. Given the proper nutrition the body can effectively deal with most health challenges.

Today's western medical approaches rely on substituting drugs and isolated chemicals for a particular body function, ignoring the underlying health problem. If the immune system is weak, antibiotics are used; if the digestive system is weak, digestive enzymes are used, and so on. These do not feed and strengthen the systems. They are simply substitutions.

Sunrider products follow the Philosophy of Regeneration - they provide the body with nutritious, whole foods, which in turn provide the each body system with energy to drive body functions.

The Downside of Drugs and Chemicals

Although drugs or chemicals can be helpful in a health crises, letting them substitute for a body function tends to create weakness in that function:

  • Like your muscles, if a body function isn't used, it weakens
    until it deteriorates

  • When the function ceases, the body creates a dependency
    on the substitute.

  • Substitutes almost always have side effects, many of which
    are dangerous to good health.

The Philosophy of Regeneration does not focus on disease, treatment, or cure. Rather, it strives toward order, balance, and health. Nourish the body and allow it to function as it was designed.

Sunrider was built around the Philosophy of Regeneration.
Dr. Chen is the world's expert in the Philosophy of Regeneration, and Sunrider products are his crowning achievement.

More about the Philosophy of Regeneration

   WHOLE vs. ISOLATES

Whole plants have subtle and complex higher properties than individual chemicals isolated from plants. We were designed to eat whole foods for energy and all life support functions, and the body is able to absorb and process whole foods more readily than isolates.

Sunrider's herb formulas are whole foods, with their synergistic structure intact, they provide greater regenerative benefit to the body than isolated chemicals.

Isolation of Chemicals Destroys Nature's Balance

To extract chemicals from plants, scientists must destroy the plants. Isolation undoes Nature. Nature puts things together, isolation takes them apart. Plants are complex wholes that Nature makes. According to two-time Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent-Gyoerfi, wholes have subtle and complex higher properties not found in the parts. Isolation destroys those higher properties.

Combining Foods into Formulas Enhances Their Nutrition

The ancient Chinese took wholeness to a still higher level. Through wisdom gained from centuries of experience, they combine plants to make even more complex wholes – herbal formulas or combinations – with still more subtle and complex higher properties. Because Dr. Chen understands both wholeness and formulation, Sunrider products have subtle and complex higher properties that no drug or vitamin pill can match.

The relationship that results from the unique combining of chemicals is called synergy. Since nutrients found in a synergistic relationship are most readily used by the body, the nutritional needs of the body are best met by whole foods, which have natural synergy.

Intelligent Foods

All Sunrider herb foods are carefully processed to preserve the delicate enzymatic and life-force balance of each plant: The inner “intelligence” of that plant remains intact, with nutrient complexes that can be utilized efficiently by the body because they are still in whole form. Their strength lies with their “whole” context, which includes the inner energy of those plants. This seems to be the crux of the chemical controversy. Science seems to overlook the most vital link in the chemical picture: Life. Humans cannot create the life-force that holds the chemicals in a plant together.

   FOOD HERBS vs. MEDICINAL HERBS

The ancient Chinese classified herbs into three categories:

Medicinal Herbs - control or replace body functions, similar to drugs

"Food" herbs - do not control the body, but feed the body nutritionally and support its functioning and self-regulation.

Crisis herbs - are intended to be prescribed by a physician during a health emergency

Sunrider Herbs are Food Herbs, Not Medicinal Herbs

Unlike medicinal herbs, which function as drugs - food herbs merely nourish. The ancient Chinese described food herbs as "kingly" because they were so highly prized. The medicinal and crisis herbs were valuable only to accompany food herbs during a health crisis. Medicinal and crisis herbs represent the principle of Western medicine, which usually provides a quick "band-aid" fix in a health crisis.

   CONCENTRATED AND ENHANCED

Dr. Chen's elaborate herb processing technique greatly increases the nutritional value of the final products:

Concentrated

Concentration is the process of retaining the wholeness of the plant in smaller, but more valuable quantities. The herb plants are separated into water- and oil-soluble nutrients, and cellulose. The cellulose is discarded, and the oil- and water-soluble nutrients are spray-dried or flo-coated together. The water evaporates, leaving a powder rich in nutrients, to guarantee long-term stability and improved efficiency. Thus, many pounds of herbs become one pound of product. This means Sunrider capsules contain much more nutrition than ordinary herb capsules. Concentration is crucial because without it, you would have to consume huge quantities of certain foods to obtain its benefits.

How Sunrider concentrates herbs

Enhanced

Enhancing has to do with how foods are picked, processed, and prepared to maximize the desired effect on the body. Soak an herb in alcohol or vinegar, for example, and you'll alter its effects. Dry it or cook it, and you'll alter them differently. Also, different parts of the same plant (roots, leaves, etc.) can have completely different effects. The formulas instructions contain more than just an ingredients list. They also contain detailed instructions for selection and preparation, which the ancient Chinese developed into a fine art. This is why no one can copy Dr. Chen's Sunrider formulas just by reading the labels. Even if they could figure out the amount of the different herbs, they've all been enhanced in ways that only Dr. Chen understands.

How Sunrider enhances herbs

Formulas

When foods are arranged in particular ratios and relationships, subtle healing properties emerge. Formulating herbs brings out the good effects and diminishes the side effects, and enables them to better nourish each of the body's systems for overall health and balance.

   NATURAL

You are as healthy as what you put into your body. Sunrider herb foods for optimum health are organically grown & processed with no preservatives, unhealthy fat, fillers, chemical additives or sweeteners. No preservatives are used in Sunrider's gelatin capsules, as are used in some other company's. Sunrider has never radiated or fumigated their herbs, the usual method for cleaning. Instead, they select the finest raw herbs available and painstakingly clean them by hand and machine.

   NOURISH - BALANCE - CLEANSE

When one system of the body weakens due to poor nutrition, it borrows from other systems - weakening them, in turn. When a system has degenerated, most people of our culture substitute something (drug, supplement) for the body's healthy function rather than provide nutrition. This often sacrifices good health to obtain immediate results. However, when the body is fed the right combination of nourishing and cleansing herbs in a way that provides balance among the systems, optimum well-being can be achieved.

Traditional Chinese medicine has three goals to achieve health:

Nourish - herb foods provide energy and rebuilding nutrients (yang)

Balance - herb foods feed the system in a way that enhances communication among systems of the body, creating balance (balance of yin and yang)

Cleanse - herb foods nourish the body's own system that rids
the body of toxins and buildup (yin)

   Whole vs. Isolated
If you squeeze the juice out of an orange, the juice is still in a whole food form. But if a chemist extracts the vitamin C from the orange, it becomes an isolated chemical. The body no longer recognizes it as a whole food, and it doesn't feed the body like a whole food.
