RESEARCH NOTE:
Does the Traditional Chinese Healing System Really Work?
According to MEDLINE (The National Library of Medicine's
computerized database), of 80 English-language reports of Chinese
herbs being used on human subjects, only one report showed clearly
negative results, 4 showed possibly negative results, 4 showed
possibly positive results, and 71 showed clearly positive results.
That's a success rate of 94%.
According to data published by the
New England Journal of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control,
each year roughly 700,000 people die from medical treatment. The
tragedy isn't caused by medicine - it's caused by what we're missing,
not what we've got. What we're missing is a complementary healing
approach whose gentleness will balance the harshness of medicine.
The ancient Chinese have summarized this approach as Regeneration,
which means "return to the source." Forms of this exist in other
cultures, including America, but it's truly an ancient Chinese
tradition arrived at through centuries
of painstaking examination of what works to create health and what
doesn't.
